Big Data initiatives promise C-level executives unprecedented access to a landscape rich in data, so as to make better informed business decisions. Successful Big Data initiatives require a deeper understanding of the documents and information used in business processes.
Converting hardcopy to digital data is only the initial step. Conversion enables faster access to information by making it more searchable—but it does not necessarily overcome barriers to sharing of information (silos), nor does it eliminate bottlenecks to information usage. Conversion in fact can contribute to an already overwhelming volume of digital data.
